Deuteronomy 20:1-9 (King James Version)

1When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the LORD thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. 2And it shall be, when ye are come nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people, 3And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them; 4For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

5And the officers shall speak unto the people, saying, What man is there that hath built a new house, and hath not dedicated it? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it. 6And what man is he that hath planted a vineyard, and hath not yet eaten of it? let him also go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man eat of it. 7And what man is there that hath betrothed a wife, and hath not taken her? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her. 8And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful and fainthearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren's heart faint as well as his heart.

9And it shall be, when the officers have made an end of speaking unto the people that they shall make captains of the armies to lead the people.

This Scripture amazes me.
Verses 1-5- are instructions for battle and a sure outcome is promised here. Encouragement is given by the priests to neither be faint, nor tremble, to fear not, nor be terrified.

3And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them;

4For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

Did he say, Hear O Israel? Did all really hear? Were there some deaf?
Were there some in the army who only heard the second part and not the first?

So these fearful and fainthearted heard not, and forgot ‘WHO is HE that goeth with them’.
Fear, anxiety, trembling, faint-heartedness causes spiritual deafness, and affects the memory, so that that good which is heard, is not retained, and stored, but cast out instantly and forgotten.

First the priests speak, and then the officers. Why do the officers need to speak thus?

8And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful and fainthearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren's heart faint as well as his heart.

Theirs seemed a summary, that if the loss of these things that they had left behind, had caused them insecurities, and thereby led them to faint at their loss, then they must leave forthwith. Go back to those things.

All these men had already joined the army but were yet to go to war. It is in this in-between stage, that officers are instructed to ask the soldiers, are you fearful are you fainthearted, have you things you left behind, father, mother, homes, things that still hold your attention and focus?

This is the time to check your hearts. The battle out there is fierce.

Why did the officers need to ask those who were already in the army, such a question?

Only after such questions, that would reveal the hearts of these men, the captains are appointed and revealed.

The captains were from within the army, but they were appointed and revealed only after that heart-searching question was asked.

You see, God is eliminating those unfit for battle and is giving to the fit- for- service captains, fit-for-service soldiers. If you have known in your heart that you are to lead His People, be sure that the process of elimination is on. God knows those who are His obedient ones, He will not burden them with an unequal yoking, so take heart, the fearful, the terrified, the trembling have voluntarily chosen to be away from you.

Are there amongst you those who faint, who tremble, and are terrified? Are there amongst you the spiritually deaf, who hearing, never understand the promises of God?
Are there those amongst you who once seemed like one of you, but really they are not?
Are there those among you who want not the discipline of God, but just the glamour of being dressed as an ‘enlisted’ one? They enjoyed it while it lasted, but do not want to die to sensual pleasures and want not to submit under the discipline and authority of the Word of God?

Rejoice, God is divinely, by His process of elimination allowing those whose rebellious hearts are on fun and frolic, to return to it, by their own choosing. Whatever lust, yearning or longing, or love of man is blocking them from moving forward, such who stubbornly clutch on to their lusts, are being given over to it, by their own choosing.

But you! You move on, for the Commander-in-Chief Goes with you, but the man-lovers will be left behind.

God’s process of elimination is on.

He is ensuring that none of His warriors walk with those who consider them not their true brethren, but choose rather to return to those carnal relationships and activities, that they physically left behind, but their hearts were in full memory of them, their attachments were dragging them back, tugging at them like invisible chains. For such carnal companions, can never be your fellow soldiers. They will only contaminate you with their own faint-heartedness. Their hearts are still entangled with those they left behind. They neither believe that God’s Love disciplines, nor do they want to confront anything that might bring death and cut them away from their old alliances. God in His Wonderful Mercy and Grace is removing such from your midst.
The warriors of God on earth cannot go head on into war, until they who bring unequal yoking are sent away. Praise God for the divine separation that is underway. The carnal hearts, are now being revealed. They despise God ordained authority.

God Has been Sending the call for separation, through His prophets.
Look around you, do you see how the faint-hearted hasten away?

The separation has come.

Yes, this is that time......and now for the divine appointing and revealing of the captains!

God is releasing skilled warriors, faces of lions and swift as gazelles.
